Description Triptych of Christ Miséricordieux de Cracovie (face) with floral pattern and candles

On this religious triptych, a close up of the face of the Merciful Christ of Sister Faustine had been chosen. This face corresponds to the Krakow painting. Two paintings were made from the vision that Sister Faustina had of the Merciful Christ in 1931. They are distinguished by the name of the place where they are currently: Krakow and Vilnius. The oldest is that of Vilnius realized during the lifetime of the saint and according to his indications; he was exposed to public veneration in 1935. The second, the one of Cracow, from which comes the image on this triptych, was made in 1943, 10 years after the first painting and 5 years after the death of saint Faustine Kowalska. An artist, Adolphe Hyla, painted this second painting to thank Divine Providence for having spared his family during the war and offered it in ex-voto to the sisters of Our Lady of Mercy to be placed in the chapel of the Sacred Heart of the Krakow Convent.
This representation of the face of Christ may upset some people because of its somewhat sentimental side (actor like one may say). But beyond the sensitive aspect, this icon of Merciful Jesus teaches us how much Jesus loves us. He cast upon each one in particular his look of love and mercy, and invites us to render love for love, by throwing out of our life everything that opposes or destroys this love: sin. Sin is really the only evil we must fear here, because it can lead us to hell for all eternity. Jesus revealed his Mercy to Saint Faustina Kowalska, because he wants us to love Him, indeed he alone is worthy of the heart of man; he wants us to avoid hell as well, which is the only place were people don't love Him, there hatred reigns with endless torment. He wants us to be eternally happy by the contemplation of God in Heaven with Him, the Blessed Virgin, the angels and all the saints. However Love does not force itself and God respects our freedom. It is therefore by a free act of our person that he wants us to choose to love him, and to be happy in Heaven for all eternity. This love of God is concretized in the observance of the ten commandments of God.
