I generally try to remove gold plating because I like brass, and after several 12+ hour soaks in vinegar and salt, in addition to actually sanding the edges, I can't seem to get through the gold plating. I'm starting to wonder if it's vermeil. Normally vinegar will take gold plating off, and failing that, sanding will. I'm actively trying to remove the gold plating on this and it is taking a lot to get through it. The plating on this will last you a very long time.
