This statue represents St. Joseph asleep, peaceful, serene, in total abandonment in the hands of the Lord.
Joseph received in a dream the most important and decisive messages for Jesus and the whole Holy Family.
St. Joseph worked, traveled, ate his meals, always united to God, or contemplating Jesus and Mary.
His sleep did not even stop this sweet union. His memory was always alive, even when his eyes were closed. St. Joseph's rest revealed to him the will of God.
Joseph sleeps, but at the same time he is able to hear the Angel (Mt 2:13). From him emanates what a passage in the Song of Songs says: I sleep but my heart watches (Ct 5:2). The senses are at rest but the soul is awake. It can hear deeply and is open enough for the Life of God and his Holy Angels to reach the ear of its heart.
Let us recall here the devotion to St. -Joseph that Pope Francis has made known to the whole world.
"Do not forget St. Joseph who sleeps," he said.
Indeed, the Pope confided in an interview after returning from a trip that he himself has a statuette of St. Joseph asleep in his room. He likes to emphasize the lesson of trust and faith that this posture inspires. He slips these prayer intentions under the statue and points out that Saint Joseph is sleeping on a layer of paper. St. Joseph sleeping is a devotion that is dear to him.

To represent Saint Joseph sleeping is thus a tradition very widespread in Latin America and in Italy, but little known in France.
Let us report here, the four dreams of St. Joseph in the Gospel and the divine plan.
Since each of them is about decisive events in God's plan, it is understandable that God himself indicates the paths to be followed, in the most discreet way possible, through dreams.
1) The first dream: Matthew 1, 18-25 where Joseph is invited to accept Mary...
And this is how Jesus Christ was born. Mary, his mother, was betrothed to Joseph, and before they had lived together, she became pregnant by the Holy Spirit. Joseph, her husband, who was an upright man and did not want to denounce her publicly, resolved to repudiate her quietly. He had formed this plan when the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said: "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary your wife into your home, for that which has been begotten in her is from the Holy Spirit; she will bear a son, to whom you shall give the name Jesus.
2) The second dream concerns the flight into Egypt and the massacre of the Innocents: Matthew 2, 13
After their departure, the Angel of the Lord appears to Joseph in a dream and says to him: "Arise, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt; and stay there until I warn you. For Herod will seek the child to destroy him."
3) The third dream refers to the return from Egypt: Matthew 2:19
When Herod had ceased to live, the Angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream in Egypt, and said to him, "Arise, take the child and his mother and return to the land of Israel; for they are dead who sought the life of the child and his mother."
4) The fourth dream, the settlement in Nazareth: Matthew 2:22-23
But when he heard that Archelaus was ruling in Judea in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there; so he was advised in a dream to withdraw to the region of Galilee and settle in a town called Nazareth. Thus the oracle of the prophets was to be fulfilled.
